Pte. Henry Joseph Stevens of the 23rd Battalion  Armed Forces in WW1 service number 912 died on board the H.S "Simla" at sea 9 months after enlisting in Ballarat on 10 September 1915 aged 18 from illness (Dipthelia)

Pte. H. J. Stevens, third son of Mrs. and late Mr. H. Stevens, of Nerrina. Prior to joining the A.I.F. he was employed by Mr. A. Hall, bootmaker, of Sturt street.
