Private Edward John Turner was my Great Grandfather. He died at the age of 28 leaving his wife and 2 children, one of whom was my Grandad who was 3 months old at the time of his father's death. Private Turner's body was never recovered but his name is on a plaque at Dud Corner Cemetery in Loos. I visited his "resting place" earlier this year to pay my respects. It was the first time a member of his family has been. I found the whole experience to be very emotional and feel that everyone should visit the War Graves at some time in their lives. The immense loss of life is staggering and such a terrible terrible waste. Private Turner's name will fade from the plaque over the next hundred years but I am so glad that I saw it for myself. Rest in peace .. you will never be forgotten.
