As I was born in the shadow of a coal pit winding gear so was I laid to rest 21 years later. I will know no more pain, nor will I bear witness to further death and destruction. Not for me the cry of my first born nor the joy of a loving wife. I will never hunger or bleed at the coal face to feed those I care for or be haunted by my father’s despair, my mother’s grief. For I am one of the Fallen, my name cast in stone, my body laid to rest far, far from my homeland, my family, my life.

William Wilson was the son of Alexander and Janet Wilson of Buckhaven, Fife, Scotland. The son of a coal miner, William was destined never for follow in his fathers footsteps. William was survived by his sister Janet, my Great Grandmother.
