When I was growing up, my Dad told me about him. He was my Grandmother's brother and I was told he was a fantastic shot with a rifle. I knew he died at the Battle of the Somme, but for years, we never knew much more than that (in fact for a long time, my family believed he was reported Missing in Action). I decided to check the British War Graves registry, and I wouldn't have known it was him, except it listed his home village. The village was small enough that between that, and his death during the first day of the battle, Ihave no doubt that it was him.
