Further research has shown that Francis and my mother's uncle, Walter Charles Ford, were in the same battalion, killed in the same battle on the same day.  Did they know each other?  They would not have known they would become members of both sides of my family.  My mother was just 15 at the time and my father 21 serving with the 8th Battalion.
