Amyas Quirke and my Grandfather, Captain John George Magrath, were brother officers in 56 Btn Maschine Gun Corps. Tragically 2nd Lt Quirke died of wounds on 3rd November 1918 just over a week before the Armistice. He was just 27 years old. Jack Magrath subsequently named his first child William John Quirke Magrath, born 1920,  in his memory.  As Bill Magrath himself passed away in 2011, the connection with Amyas Quirke is quietly fading into the past.  Ninety-seven years to the day after 2nd Lt Quirke was called to Higher Service, there cannot be many who have raeson to remember him, so I wanted to post tjhis brief not to mark his passing and try and ensure he is never forgotten.
