My Grandmother worked with Herbert’s sister, Ella (Caroline Ella Higgins CLARKE), in Guildford, in the 1920's.

She was given some of the CLARKE family letters to Bert from the WW1, which are now with me.

After Herbert was lost in March 1918 Ella and her family never gave up searching for him.

Up to 1932, they kept trying to find him through both official sources and private investigators.

I have been to place a cross for him at Vis-En-Artois.

He is also honoured on the War Memorial at St. Matthew's Church, Burnley.

I have offered  many of my documents to the History Department at Kings' School, Winchester, so Herbert can be a part of their  1915 WW1 commemorations.

I will be thinking of him when I march past The Cenotaph in Whitehall on 8th November 2015.
