David was born on the 5th of February 1887 in Kirkmichael,Ayrshire. He was the only son of David and Sarah Ferguson who already had a daughter, Elizabeth, who was born in 1886.

The family moved to Maybole where David's father worked as an agricultural labourer. Young David attended Alloway Public school and when he left joined his father in working the land.

On the 10th December 1909 David married Isabella Smith McCrindle. Together they had a son, David, who was born 1910. 

David joined the Army Service Corps and was sent to France and Flanders. There he died of wounds on the 3rd of November 1918. He was 31yrs old. He is buried in Dulgallow ADS cemetery in Belgium.

Isabella remarried on the 14th August 1920. She married Andrew Swn, a Railway Porter.

David is remembered with pride in Alloway and Fisherton.
