William left England to find his fortune working in Australia, war started, he joined the A.I.F 21st battalion in February 1915.Served in Gallipoli briefly , got injured and sent for treatment, rejoined his battalion as they arrived in Marseilles , then headed for the Somme. as dawn broke on 26th August they took part in the fierce fighting at Moquet farm.William got injured during this and was soon sent to the 3rd Casualty clearing station by Puchevillers.Sadly, three days later died of his injury...a gun shot wound to his arm. Like many others ,sadly never made it home. His younger brother had sadly been killed in February the same year. Their big brother Thomas was my great grandfather and only surviving boy to continue their family name.My grandfather was named after him .We will always feel very saddened for his families loss..but very very immensly proud. Thank you xx
