Joseph Elwell was born in Sedgley in the West Midlands in 1878. He was the oldest son of David Elwell and Sarah Ann (nee Harris). He married Sarah Lounds on 15th May 1898 and they had six children, the oldest of whom, David, was killed in action in 1916. Joseph was a relative of my husband's great grandmother.
