I picked you to commemorate because until I got married I too was M Hayes. I know nothing about you, other than you were a soldier in World War One, an artillery man, who fought and died for his country. Your great sacrifice and those of your fellow men is unimaginable to those of us fortunate enough to be living today. I've been to Ypres and seen how beautifully the War Graves Commission keeps the graves of our soldiers and attended The Last Post at the Menin Gate, not far from where you lie. I am glad you have a grave and a headstone. May you rest in peace. I will remember you.
