My great grandfather

John Mason was born out of wedlock in 1882 at 13 West Street, Macclesfield.  He should have carried the name Briggs, however as he was born out of wedlock he was given the surname Mason, as his mothers married name was Mason, and her husband died 3yrs before the birth of John.  His sister was born in 1883 and was named Lily Briggs-Mason.

John lied in order to join the army in 1899 and claimed he was 19, when in actual fact he was only 17 years of age. He married Florence, and i have the death plaque that she so dearly polished every day
