This man, age 18 - was the son of the local butcher. He was described as "happy-go-lucky, uncomplicated, a butcher's son happy to work in the family shop for the rest of his life - and fined for being late on parade a number of times in his brief Army career". It is unthinkable that you died so young. We hope you were not afraid, Herbert, or at the very least no alone when you died. We will always remember you - and although you have had no children to recount your tales, we will always remember.
