I never had the privilege of knowing you, so I have no idea what kind of man you may have been, I am none the less proud that you were my grandfather. I know little of your service during the great war, other that it lasted a little over two months, given that you were killed on October 21st 1914 at the Balle of La Basee. I do know that 1 DCLI distiguished itself there in the face of overwheming odds. Sadly, you have no known grave, for me to visit and pay my respects, but I hope to be able to visit the memorial at Le Touret.
