1st Life Guards War Diary records that the regiment moved into wooden huts at Vlamertinghe on the evening of 26 April 1915. The regiment remained in huts the following day, and during the afternoon, Vlamertinghe was shelled. This resulted in 4 casualties for the regiment – 2947 Corporal W Clay, 2427 Corporal of Horse G McFeeley, and 2905 Trooper RW Westley being killed, and 6905 Trooper G McCulloch  being wounded. George Edward McFeely (as per CWGC) is buried in Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetery, and William Henry Clay is buried in Klein-Vierstraat British Cemetery.
