William Derrick was born in Ashill Somerset in 1884, the eldest of his parents, Worthy and Lydia's children.  He was married to Lily before joining the Somerset Light Infantry in 1914.  He was killed in action in France and is buried in the Mesnil-Ridge Cemetery, a small tranquil part of the French countryside.
