Edwin, as a former soldier in the 1st Lincolns myself, doing my National Service in 1950, I am pleased to be given this opportunity to salute you as a brave young soldier who lost his life in the service of his country. You were laid to rest with 35 other members of our regiment in Dozinghem Cemetery, north-west of Poperinghe, Flanders. Most of the deaths of our comrades buried here took place during 1917 after unsuccessful treatment in either the 4th, 47th or 61st Casualty Clearing Stations. I understand that you were treated in the 47th and died of your wounds which were inflicted the previous day when you were fighting in Flanders with the 2nd/5th TA Battalion of our regiment. Nevertheless, I trust that the  Guard of Honour at your graveside fired the traditional salute to a fallen comrade. In addition to your gravestone at Dozinghem, I also trust that you were commemorated on your home town war memorial. My sympathy to your parents David and Ellen, and to other relatives who mourned your sacrifice.  Rest in Peace.  Harry.
