Andrew was born on February 2nd 1897 in Nelson, Lancashire the son of Nancy Alice and Andrew Gill. He had three sisters named Bertha, Edith and Margaret. By trade Andrew was a cotton weaver. He joined the Royal Field Artillery in early 1915 and was sent to France in August 1915. He was killed in Mazingarbe, France on May 18th 1917 when the telegraph pit in which he was sitting was blown in by German artillery fire. He was killed along with a number of comrades and they are buried by each other in Philosophe British Cemetery, Mazingarbe.
