Harry, as one Harry to another, I am not aware of the circumstances of your death, but, as a former Lance Corporal in the Lincolns myself, doing my National Service in 1950, I am pleased to be given this opportunity to salute you as a brave young NCO who lost his life in the service of his country in 1916 during the fighting to the south-west of Arras. Your funeral took place at Berles Position Military Cemetery, where 20 other members of our regiment were also buried. I trust that the Guard of Honour at your graveside fired the traditional salute to a fallen comrade. In addition to your gravestone at Berles I also trust that you were commemorated on your home town war memorial. My sympathy to your parents and other relatives who mourned your sacrifice. Rest in Peace. Harry.
