Frederick Charles Christmas was 26 years old, married with two sons (age 3 and 2) when he died in France. He was admitted to No.12 Stationary Hospital, St Pol sur Ternoise on 20th August 1917, suffering from a left cerebella absscess having been ill for eight days. He died on 27th August 1917, cause of death is listed as left cereballa abscess following an old left middle ear disease. Notification of his death stated that the illness was contracted while on military duty and considered to have been aggravated by active service conditions. He is buried at the small military cemetery in town. His younger unmarried brother Lance Corporal Henry Arthur Christmas (Dorsetshire Regiment) had died in Ypres on 12th February 1915.
