Arnold was the youngest of the 10 children of Amos and Ellen Garwood. I believe that he enlisted in the army some time before May 1915 in the 7th battalion suffolk regiment. This battalion was raised in Bury St. Edmunds in August 1914 as part of Kitchener's First New Army. Arnold went missing in October 1915.
