Reg Lambert, his brother William, and their father Edwin, were all miners at the Senghenydd coal mine on 14 October 1913. On that day an explosion at the mine resulted in the deaths of 436 miners. All three Lamberts survived the disaster. One year later, on 3 September 1914, Reg and William enlisted in the British Army at Abertridwr, Glamorgan. William served in The Royal Irish Rifles and survived the Great War. Reg eventually joined the 2nd Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment and served in the Ypres Salient before moving to the Somme. Having survived the tragedy in Senghenydd, he was killed on 26 September 1916 at the Battle of Morval. He was 20 years old. Our research over some 20 years leads us to believe that his body remains in the fields of Morval, our possibly in an unmarked grave in the Guards Cemetery at Lesboeufs.
