Harry, as one Harry to another, I do not know the circumstances of your death, nor why your remains were not recovered from the field of battle, but I can still salute you as the brave soldier you undoubtedly were, who died in the service of his country. You would likely have been a member of one of the Regular Battalions of the Lincolns, who had crossed the Channel in the autumn of 1914. You were then involved with them in the 1st Battle of Ypres which reached its crisis in late October 1914. It was in this ferocious fighting that you lost your life. As a former Lincolns man myself, I know the sincere meaning of the Last Post, sounded in your honour by the buglers at the Menin Gate. My sympathy to your relatives who mourned your sacrifice.
