George originally enlisted into the 1/5th East Surrey Regiment aged 16.  He then went on to serve with the 2/22nd London Regiment in France before being transferred to Palestine where he was killed in action at Tel-el-Sharia.  Educated in East Molesey Surrey, attending the elementary school there. Prior to enlistment he was employed at the Esher Mills in Surrey.
