I found Alfred Mclean while researching our family tree. It has been almost a century and a visit to France took on great importance. As a small token of my respect for both Alfred and his brother Thomas (DLI) I left this dedication at their respective cemeteries:
And who am I that did not serve, to walk among men such as these?
And who am I that did not rise, to take such pride in fallen men?
And who am I that did not fall, to feel the breeze meant for all?
I am a keeper of your name, so others will know and keep the flame.
As you sleep among the poppied rows,
We will remember you, as the seasons go.
We will remember you, as the seasons go.
