Charlie, the first fact I noticed about you was that you had died only one week before the Armistice and if anything brings home to me just how cruel war can be, it was to know this about your own sacrifice. The second fact that registered with me was that your old home is not very far away from where I am now writing these words. Both these facts reinforce my determination to salute to you as a brave soldier who died in the service of his country. I trust that the Guard of Honour at your funeral service fired the traditional salute to a fallen comrade. I cannot imagine what your mother must have gone through when the postman delivered the little brown envelope containing the sad news. My very sincere sympathy to them. Rest in Peace. Harry.
