James N Hall of Lucas's Yard, Portland Street, Mansfield enlisted on 9th March 1915 into the 14th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derbys) Regiment and was later transferred to the 1st Lancashire Fusiliers. He was drafted to the Dardenelles on 22nd July 1915 and it was whilst he was on duty in the Galipoli Peninsula that he died from frost bite. A widow and two small children were bereaved. Prior to enlisting James Hall was a miner at Pleasley Colliery.
