William was one of ten children, he was 22years old when he died, his brother Tom was badly wounded in Galipolli in 1915 serving with the Royal Scots Fusiliers.When their Mother recieved the telegram of Williiams death, she was in complete despair. Although she never drank alcohol she looked for something to calm her. She took a crock jar from the kitchen thinking it was whisky, and took a drink. It was Ammonia. She died a few days later. So the family lost not only their son but also thier Mother.
