I sadly know little about my Great Uncle. I only found out some years ago he existed from my Grandfather, who was his very young brother. Williams Father, William was English and his Mother, Hannah was French, so I suppose he would have felt the German invasion in to France an affront to his mother as well as to freedom. So like many young impressionable lads of his time he joined the struggle and enlisted in the East Surrey Regiment. They shipped him off to Ypres in Flanders where he fought for a very short time before losing his life. His body was never found, but his name lives on, on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres.
I will always remember his sacrifice.
