Roderick Mackenzie (the "a" was missed out on records) was the son of a blacksmith originally from Kirkhill but who lived in Celt Street in Inverness. He along with his brother James was one of a group of Inverness Caledonian footballers who joined up. James who was in the Royal Scots was injured twice but survived the war, played at right back for Caley. Roderick and his fellow footballers who didn't survive were commemorated by the football club in a memorial which was given to each family. His name can be found on the Inverness memorial at Cavell Gardens.
