William (Willie) Deans was born in Glasgow on 12 th December 1891.  He was six years with the 89th Boys Brigade and an officer for the last two years.  During the absence of the Pipe-Major, Piper Deans was the instructor.  He received several medals for pipe-playing and was in the Territorial Pipe Band for four years before war was declared.  He was a very conscientious young man and anxious to get on in life.  He was 24 years old when he was reported missing in action in Gallipoli, 28 June 1915
