George my great great uncle, was killed during the First World War. He had been working on his father's farm and so was in a reserved occupation and was not subject to conscription. Unfortunatley he was sent a white feather, the sign of cowardice. He was so upset that he volunteered. He was a lance-corporal in the Coldstream Guards and died in battle aged 23. His body was never found but his name is recorded in a memorial in Cambrai and Burwell, his birth place. Everyman was brave, their names shall live on. forever.
