One of 6 brothers & 1 sister Thomas enlisted with his brother Bertie and served with the 1st/5th Battalion in Gallipoli & Palestine. Having survived the horrors of the Gallipoli campaign Thomas was ****ed aged 35 years in the disastrous attack of the 19 Apr 1917 on a Turkish redoubt on the Gaza-Beersheba road. The 1/4th & 1/5th Norfolks lost so many men that they were subsequently amalgamated under the command of a Lt Col of the Scottish Rifles. His brother John was KIA on 1 May 17 and is commemorated on the Loos Memorial. Their brothers Albert & Bertie (my grandfather) survived.
