Henry Lawrence Jackson was the only son and fourth of five children of William (deceased, and formerly a butcher) and Kate Jackson.  Kate Jackson was the village sub-postmistress living in Ivy Cottage, Spring Lane.  Henry joined the 9th Northumberland Fusiliers as a Private, and was promoted to Quartermaster Sergeant before going to the trenches. He had been in France for barely two weeks when he was struck by a shell which killed him, aged 29, on 26 July 2018.  He was awarded the Victory and British medals and the French Star.  He was a cousin of Henry Percy Jackson also of Flintham and who also died on the battlefields of the Western Front.
