Rifleman John Hill was born in Skilganaban, Ballynure on 12/12/1891 to Henry Hill and Lizzie Barbour and was baptised in this church. He served with C Company, 12th Battalion, Central Antrim Volunteers of the Royal Irish Rifles (War number: 243)             

John, aged 25, was killed in action at the Battle of the Somme 1st July 1916 and is remembered on Panel 15A on the Thiepval Memorial.
