Private Albert John Sperring was my grandfather's brother. Their father deserted the family in 1910 and The two boys went to work to support the rest of the family. Albert worked as a tramway driver and married Kate Oldfield. He left behind a daughter. Pvt Sperring was the son of Henry Arthur Sperring and Ada Frances Howell of Bristol. He died 26 October 1918 and was a member of C Coy. 1st/5th Bn.
