I was unable to find information on my grand-father Harry Oswald Date, therefore I chose to remember you as you were possibly from the same extended family as my grand-father. My Fathe, Leslie George Date of Bedminster, had an older brother Francis Edward Date, who was born in Long Ashton, Somerset, in January 1912. Your wife, Daisy Annie Date, resided close to there at the time of your death. My father was born on 29 May 1917, shortly before your death, his father had died during the pregnancy, therefore he was unable to meet his father. Sadly, no information on him has been passed down to my generation. I do not know if you ever had the opportunity to become a father, perhaps you did, then your children would have been of my father's generation, and if they had children they would be of mine. Perhaps, you never had this opportunity as your life was taken from you at such a young age. As no one has remebered you with their story, I remember you on behalf of my family. I thank you deeply for your great sacrifice which has enabled my generation to be born and to live freely. At this time in history with no veterans remaining from this Great War, and fewer every year from the Second World War, it is important that we, and generations that come after us, never forget the hardships you endured and the sacrifice that was made by you, and all others of your generation who fought on behalf of king and country so we could live without tyranny.
We shall always remember you and what you did for us.
Lovingly remembered by Susan Date of Bristol, U.K. currently residing in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
