Harvey was my Great Uncle and the eldest of six siblings (his eldest sister was my Grandmother). The family lived in Wigston, Leicestershire and Harvey attended Wyggeston Grammar School in the city. He joined the Post Office on leaving school and on the outbreak of the Great War, enlisted in the Postal Section of the Royal Engineers. Harvey was later commissioned into the Leicestershire Regiment and was awarded the Military Cross for his actions on 21st March 1918. He was posted missing on 27th May 1918. he is commemorated on the Soissons Memorial to the Missing. His mother, whilst never accepting his death, arranged for a window to his memory to be placed in St Saviour's Church in Wigston. Harvey was to have married Miss Edith Carr of Whitwick, Leicestershire. She died in 1988, never having married. She was, however, a wonderful person and is as much a victim of the Great War as Harvey and, as such, should be remembered alongside him.
