Joseph was the eldest son of Joseph and Elizabeth Smith

He had. 4 brothers and one sister. His mother died 4 months

after he was killed.  I. Visited his grave at Englrbelmer, the graves are part of a French cemetery, a very peaceful spot.  

His parents paid a shilling a letter for an inscription on his stone which said One of te Best.  He had joined the Colours in

1917 and was soon promoted to corporal. on the day he died he wa part of a relief party at Engelbelmer and was shelled when he was part. Of the unloading party, and died of his injuries. He was so young. God bless and thank you.
