John Smith born in 1887 married to Mary Carter in 1910, had 3 sons Reginald, Hubert and Norman. My father Hubert was only 3 when his father went to war, the only recollection he had of his father was one visit home and he brought him some chocolate! John was ****ed only months before the end of the war. His widow then lost the youngest of the three boys to Diphtheria. With no widows pension she made ends meet sewing. Reg and Hubert had to leave school at 1 and g to work to help support the family. They worked tirelessly ad ensured their mother was cared for. My search or the missing John began several years ago. No one knew where or when he died, my grandmother had been convinced he would return, and his death was never spoken of. When i stared to do the family tree on the internet I began searching for information and was thrilled when with the help of CWGC i found him. The man who had given his life for our freedom is now not forgotten. Unfortunately my father died aged 89 not knowing i had found his fathers grave. i was privileged to visit the graveyard with my husband and two sons of whom I'm sure he would have been proud. Honoured and rembered forever your grand daughter Sian
