As a child I would often spend time with my Gran (Amy), Maurice's sister, in Slinfold, West Sussex. I remember her pausing each time she passed the War Memorial in the village to remember her brother whose name was listed. Many years later my husband and I went over to France and found Maurice's name on the wall at Arras Memorial - a very emotional experience. My Gran told me that the family learned that Maurice had died in France from the Mother of another local who was near Maurice when he died - the official notification following some time thereafter.
