After the death of my mum I inherited the British War medal which I assumed had once belonged to my Grandad. However, from watching the Antiques Roadshow I realised there was a name inscribed on the edge of each medal and on closer inspection I saw that the inscribed name was J W Howarth. I consequently embarked on a journey to discover more about this person and with the help of the internet and local archive departments I discovered that J W Howarth was John William Howarth, my Great Uncle. I have obtained his casualty details and plan to visit his grave in Le Cateau Communal Cemetery in France next year.
