Pte William Wain of New Cross Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield enlisted in January 1915 and was drafted to France in February 1916. Prior to enlisting he worked at the Bentink Colliery. He was killed by a rifle grenade whilst performing his duty in the first line of trenches and died instantly. He was 20 years of age. A widow and two daughters were bereaved.
