William James Rogers died at the age of 41 on 28th September 1915 from wounds recieved in action.  He was the husband of Florence (nee Gamble) and father to a son and daughter. Born in St Austell, Cornwall,William served seven years in the 1st Coldstream Gurards before leaving to become a drill instructor in the police force. In September 1914 he was called up as drill instructor (after being on the National Reserve and offering his services) with the 12th Sherwood Foresters  where he was promoted to Warrant Officer . He was sent to France 12 months later.
