In proud and loving memory of my great uncle Reuben who retired from the army in 1910, but returned to the colours In August 1914, on the outbreak of war.

My father, Terence Fell (who was a boy of 8 at the time), remembered his uncle Reuben attending a family party whilst he was at home on his final leave. He danced with my father's mother (his sister in law), and when she asked him how long it would be before he was home on leave again, he said "Oh no Annie, I won't be coming home again, I'm quite sure of that. This will be the last time that you'll see me". She told him not be be so silly, but his words were of course prophetic.
