Son of John and Jeanie Law Martin Benson, of Marionville, Airdrie. Educated at Airdrie Academy and St. Salvators, St. Andrew's, and afterwards at Fettes and Merton College, Oxford. Enlisted in Glasgow Highlanders, Sept., 1914. Gazetted to Highland Light Inf, Oct., 1915. Twice previously wounded.
