Son of Patrick Leslie Johnston, and Jessie Chalmers Johnston, of Huntly, Longforgan, Dundee, Scotland. Served in South African Campaign (as Cpl.) with Brabants Horse, (as Serjt.) with Western Province Mounted Rifles, later in Cape Mounted Police.
